Rules Education Pathway

The international governing body for the Rules of Golf is The R&A. Golf Australia (GA) and Member Associations work closely with the R&A to service Australian clubs and individuals.

GA has adopted The R&A’s three-tier Rules Education Pathway. These resources provide official Rules education in Australia to deliver to clubs and golfers:

  • International best practice

  • International consistency

  • Direct access to the significant investment capacity and expertise of the R&A

GA’s Rules Education Pathway enables people of various skill or knowledge levels to further develop and improve their capacity to conform with or deliver the Rules of Golf and competition management.

GA’s Rules Education Pathway aims to cater for those who simply want a better understanding of the most common rules scenarios right through to those who wish to referee in an official capacity at the highest level.

Club Level

The Club Level is a short, clear version of the Rules of Golf. This can be hosted by your club, and presented by an office-holder or someone who holds Level 2 accreditation. Download the Club Level Presentation here

Please see below tabs for a further breakdown of information.

The Australian National Rules Accreditation & Education Programs Framework will now consist of five tiers following the recent inclusion of The R&A Rules Academy.

The R&A Rules Academy is based on the Rules of Golf and provides a great introduction to the Rules for players starting out in the game. The course features video, images and diagrams of Rules situations and includes revision questions after each section.

The R&A Rules Academy covers the essentials that all golfers should know such as sportsmanship, integrity and respect. It adopts a tee to green approach and tells you what you need to know at each point; from where to tee your ball, to taking relief from various conditions, to holing out and returning the score card.

At the end of the course, people can take a Rules Exam and receive a certificate. Exams consist of 50 questions broken. Participants must attain a mark of at least 60% to pass.

For those wishing to continue to develop their Rules knowledge, we offer a Level 2 course.

The Framework’s five tiers are as follows:

  1. Rules & Handicapping General Education Programs

  2. R&A Rules Academy (1st Proof of Competency Level)

  3. Club Level (2nd Proof of Competency Level)

  4. Advanced State Level Rules & Competitions Course (3rd Proof of Competency Level)

  5. National Level
